I can't believe its been so long since I wrote on my blog. I thought retirement gave me a lot more time, not a lot more to do. I do love being busy. I contacted my cousin Laura who I have not seen in 50 years. It was great catching up. I still have not talked to my cousin Patty. Messages left, but can't seem to catch up with each other. I again talked with my Aunt Elizabeth, and from what she told me I think I found the boat that my great grandparents came over on from Ireland. I also found my great grandmother's name but can't be sure because I don't yet have the day in May she was born. I was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Veterans group that I am with. I have not served in 20 years so much has changed. Riverside had a Veterans Parade on Saturday. Our Veterans group helped with the orginization. I got to the site were the parade was to start expecting to just having to walk in the parade. Next thing I knew I was out directing traffic on the main street. When I finished I got to spend some time with Col. Lewis Millett. He is the only living Medal of Honor winner from the area. Although he is getting older, and is not getting around as much, because of some medical problems he had them bring him out in a wheelchair so he could be there. He wanted to hear the bagpipes that were playing on the other side of the parking lot. I helped get him across the parking lot, and he spent the next hour listening to the music. The pipers were so glad to meet him they wanted to play any song he wanted to hear. I saw alot of veterans come over to talk to Col. Millett from Officers to privates. He treated each one as if they were all important. I walked through the parade, and at the end was my wife Linda, daughter Sharla and grandkids Everrett, Natalie and Clark, soon join by son-in-law Cameron and granddaughter Chloe after her dance class. The next day was back to working on the yards. I had to let the guy that did our yards go, because he didn't seem to show up often. This gives me more work, but I save a little money. We spent part of the day planting and working on the outdoor furniture. Lots of work to do before my Sister gets here in a week and a half. Well I must have bored everyone by now with a lot of info no one wanted to know so I will sign off with a photo of Col. Millett. Hope to hear from everyone soon.
